ORINDA, CA - Congressman John Garamendi (D-Walnut Creek) joined local leaders and transportation officials in the ground breaking ceremony for the fourth bore of the Caldecott Tunnel.
Set to cost around 420 million dollars, it is the single largest project that has received funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"The Recovery Act and other recent measures to improve our economy have done much to turn around the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression," states Rep. John Garamendi.
The project is scheduled to last for four years and bring more than 5,000 jobs to the region.
