Congressman Garamendi Votes Against Misguided Bill that would Defund Law Enforcement

"The recent tragedy in San Francisco underscores the need for local law enforcement and immigration enforcement to work together to make sure dangerous criminals don’t fall through the cracks. Unfortunately, this bill is not a solution. This bill would defund local law enforcement and risks damaging existing relationships between law enforcement and the immigrant communities they serve," Garamendi said.

Congressman Garamendi Applauds Opening of Yolo County Small Business Development Center

"Small businesses are America’s economic engine," said Congressman Garamendi. "In the past 10 years, small businesses have created over 65% of all new jobs in this country. This Small Business Development Center will help existing businesses and new entrepreneurs achieve their professional goals and keep our local economy strong."

Congressman Garamendi Gets Update on Travis Air Force Base Security, Talks to Travis Community Leaders

"We are in the first quarter of a trillion dollar nuclear arms race," Garamendi said. "Before we embark on these incredibly expanded nuclear weapons programs, I want to know why. By voting down my amendments for more information on the costs and risks of our nuclear weapons strategy, a majority of my colleagues in Congress would prefer we just vote yes and wallow in ignorance. I don’t like ignorance."

Congressman Garamendi Votes against Flawed Western Water Bill and Calls for Reaching Common Ground

"At its core, this bill is part of a partisan campaign that sounds like a broken record. Yet again, the House brings up legislation that tries to steal Northern California water and send it to part of the Western San Joaquin Valley. H.R. 2898 would imperil jobs in fishing, small businesses in the tourism sector, and agriculture in the Delta region while devastating the environment," Congressman Garamendi said.

Garamendi Calls for Long Term Transportation Solutions, Votes for Must Pass Short Term Stopgap

"The government that functions best is the government that prepares for the future. The GROW AMERICA Act makes a solid investment in our future transportation needs, acknowledging the reality that we are not putting enough resources behind the infrastructure that drives all aspects of our economy, from commuting to work to transporting goods. I’m proud to stand with Democratic leadership in support of the GROW AMERICA Act, and in less partisan times, H.R. 3064’s priorities would be widely acknowledged to be bipartisan and unifying," Congressman Garamendi said.

Congressman John Garamendi’s statement on P5+1 agreement with Iran

"We can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Without this deal, Iran would be able to resume development of its nuclear program without international supervision and enrich enough uranium for a bomb in as little as three months. Furthermore, if America were to simply walk away from this deal, it’s likely that the strong multilateral sanctions regime would collapse. The military option is just as bad: it would only set Iran’s program back by a few years, destabilize an already volatile region, and possibly lead to a wider military confrontation," Congressman Garamendi said.

Congressman Garamendi Votes for Medical Cures Bill that Passes House of Representatives

"The 21st Century Cures Act is a huge step forward in fighting diseases that afflict millions of Americans. It provides vital funding and reforms to accelerate the development and delivery of medical breakthroughs. We need this legislation to bring our medicines into the modern day," said Congressman Garamendi."This legislation would expand opportunities for UC Davis and researchers throughout Northern California. I want to thank Noah Coughlan and the countless other advocates for getting us to this point. I urge the Senate to send this bill to the President’s desk without delay."

Congressman Garamendi & Congresswoman Lowey Respond to New Study on Crude Oil Combustibility, Calls for Immediate Crude Oil-by-Rail Volatility Safety Standard

"I’m a firm believer in the best science, and I’m happy to see this research move forward. However, we’ve already seen major explosions in West Virginia, Illinois, and Quebec. Dozens of people have lost their lives in recent years. We don’t need to wait 18 months for action to keep our communities safe. We need strong volatility standards today," Congressman Garamendi said.
