After Strong Primary Finish, Garamendi Vows to Continue Robust Grassroots Campaign and Work on Nation’s Priorities

DAVIS, CA – Incumbent Congressman John Garamendi’s (D-Fairfield, CA) grassroots campaign delivered a strong first place finish in today’s primary for the new 3rd Congressional District with nearly 53% of the vote. Under California’s new top two primary, Garamendi will advance to the general election along with the second place candidate.

At a rally at the Garamendi for Congress headquarters in Davis, Garamendi vowed to continue his robust grassroots campaign and to continue working on our nation’s priorities in Congress.

Garamendi said, “Today our campaign finished a strong first in the primary, but our work is not done. Our grassroots campaign needs to continue through November to make sure that I can continue to represent the 3rd Congressional District. The people in the new 3rd Congressional District can be assured that my voice and vote will be that of an independent fighter for the many challenges they face.”

“I will protect Social Security and Medicare. I will fight to get quality education to our students at an affordable price and stop the peripheral canal. I will never stop my efforts to create American jobs by once again making it in America,” he continued.

“Thank you to all the volunteers and supporters who made today’s great results possible. You should all be proud of the good work you’ve done,” Congressman Garamendi added. “We are running a good campaign, but as a former college football lineman, I know the danger of celebrating at halftime. This grassroots campaign will only grow stronger through November.”

Throughout his time in Congress and during this campaign, Congressman Garamendi has focused on major national priorities, including creating jobs and rebuilding America’s manufacturing sector through his Make It In America agenda; fully funding Pell Grants and affordable Stafford Loans; making sure California farmers get a fairer shake from Washington; preventing the privatization of Social Security and dismantlement of Medicare; investing in roads and water infrastructure; and responsibly paying down the deficit.

Congressman Garamendi has served as a Peace Corps Volunteer, State Assemblymember, State Senator, California Insurance Commissioner, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Interior under President Bill Clinton, California Lieutenant Governor, and Member of Congress.

The new 3rd Congressional District includes all or portions of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba counties.
