WALNUT CREEK – Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, California’s first elected State Insurance Commissioner and chair of the California Commission for Economic Development, today announced that he received the endorsement of the Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 29.
“I am proud to have the endorsement of the Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 29,” Garamendi said. “The people of the 10th Congressional District deserve a proven leader who has consistently stood with working families to create quality jobs and move our economy forward. I am a lifelong Democrat ready to work with President Obama and Congress to secure a better future for us all.”
OPEIU Local 29 is a dynamic, respected labor organization, dedicated to improving the working conditions of office, technical professionals and hospital employees. They represent nearly 4,000 employees.
Garamendi has been endorsed by President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, General Wesley Clark, SEIU California State Council, California Teachers Association, Alameda Central Labor Council, California Nurses Association, California Federation of Teachers, and many other labor unions and community organizations.
A special election will be held on September 1st.
