WALNUT CREEK – Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, chair of the California Commission for Economic Development, is honored to announce that he has received the sole endorsement of the California Labor Federation. In addition, Garamendi is proud to have the sole endorsement of the Sacramento Central Labor Council and Napa-Solano Central Labor Council. Previously, Garamendi was endorsed by the Alameda Central Labor Council.
“Today, the California Labor Federation endorsed the only lifelong Democratic candidate in the 10th Congressional District with decades of experience fighting for the rights of labor, and I am proud to accept their endorsement. They join the Alameda, Napa-Solano, and Sacramento Central Labor Councils in supporting a campaign ready to send a powerful proven Democratic voice to Washington,” said Garamendi, California’s first elected State Insurance Commissioner. “In the middle of a recession, with residents of the 10th Congressional District struggling to pay their bills, we need a leader who has never wavered in supporting the rights of workers. In Congress, I will fight to open doors of opportunity, creating quality jobs, expanding health care coverage to everyone, demanding an affordable education for the next generation, and making sure our district gets its fair share of stimulus and support from the federal government.”
The California Labor Federation is made up of more than 1,200 AFL-CIO and Change to Win unions, representing 2.1 million union members in manufacturing, retail, construction, hospitality, public sector, health care, entertainment and other industries.
John Garamendi has received many labor endorsements, including the SEIU State Council, California Nurses Association, California Teachers Association, California Federation of Teachers, California State University Employees Union, California School Employees Association, United Food & Commercial Workers Union, Western States Council, Communication Workers of America, United Food and Commercial Workers, California Federation of Teachers, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Bay Area Union Labor Party, AFSCME Local 3299, Laborers Local 185, 304, and 324, Teamsters Local 150 and 350, Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 29, United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 5, and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 3 and 12.
