WALNUT CREEK – Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, chair of the California State Lands Commission and founder of the Clean Seas Coalition, today is proud to announce that he has received the endorsement of the Sierra Club in the 10th Congressional District special primary election.
“The Sierra Club is proud to endorse John Garamendi for Congress. John's strong record of protecting the environment speaks for itself. From helping to foster California's green industries to helping to preserve Lake Tahoe, John Garamendi has been a leader in many areas that have improved people's lives,” said John Rizzo, Political Chair of the Sierra Club Bay Area chapter. “His work on protecting the coast and enhancing salmon runs and on open space preservation is well-known and spans his entire career.”
“The Sierra Club is one of our most important and respected environmental organizations, and I am honored to have the endorsement of the organization that John Muir built,” said Garamendi, who as a State Legislator authored California’s first alternative energy tax credit. “In Congress, I will continue my record of environmental stewardship by working with President Obama, his green jobs advisor Van Jones, and Democrats in Congress to help create green jobs and fund the green technology research that will propel our economy forward.”
Founded by famed naturalist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club works to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself. They are the oldest and largest environmental organization in the United States.
Lieutenant Governor Garamendi is proud to have the endorsements of a number of environmental champions, including former Vice President Al Gore, former President Bill Clinton, Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Lynn Woolsey, House Oceans Caucus Co-Chair Sam Farr, Assemblymember Mariko Yamada, and East Bay Regional Park District Board Member Ayn Wieskamp.
A special primary election will be held on September 1st. For more information, please visit http://www.garamendi.org.
