“In the primary, there were minor differences between the Democratic candidates, but in the general election, believe me, there are major differences between John and his Republican opponent,” explained Assemblymember Buchanan. “I just want to say to everybody that if you care about health care and you want every American to have access to quality, affordable health care, if you care about public education and you believe that every child deserves a high quality education and an affordable college education. And if you care about your local communities, the people in those communities, the small businesses, and you want government to work once again for Main Street, then it’s critically important that all of you get behind John Garamendi and support him for Congress.”
“As Joan said, the difference between our nominee and the Republican nominee is like night and day,” added Senator DeSaulnier. “We’ve seen the Republican Party unfortunately become more obstructionist; whether it’s health care or energy reform or helping young people in education. We need a strong voice in Washington; we’ve had a strong voice in Washington; and we will with John Garamendi as our Congress Member. So for all of my supporters, I urge them to get on with the next step in this campaign. We don’t want a Republican to represent us in Congress. We want someone who will be a strong voice for our values, and that’s John Garamendi.”
Anthony Woods released a statement saying: “I am travelling and am sorry I could not be there for this morning's event. For 35 years, Lt. Governor John Garamendi has been a tireless advocate for the people of California, and I have urged my supporters to join me in helping to make sure he is elected our next Congressman on November 3rd.” Woods continued, “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to campaign alongside Lt. Governor Garamendi, as well as Senator Mark Desaulnier, Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan and Adriel Hampton. While we each brought very different experiences to this campaign, it was always clear that we shared strong progressive values and a genuine commitment to public service. Our community has been, and will continue to be well served by their leadership.”
Garamendi commented, “There really is an extraordinary chasm between my policies and the policies that Mr. Harmer has presented on education, health care, and the rest of the important issues our nation faces.”
“In this campaign, we’ll make those differences very clear to the people in the 10th Congressional District. We go forward from here in a positive direction focused on progressive solutions to our problems. Thank you Mark, Joan, Anthony and Adriel for the extraordinary campaigns you ran. I look forward to working with each of you to make this state golden once again,” concluded Garamendi.
A special general election will be held on November 3rd. For more information, please visit http://www.garamendi.org.
