WALNUT GROVE, CA -- Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield) today announced that in 2012, he expects to run for Congress in the proposed 3rd Congressional District, which presently includes all or portions of Solano, Yolo, Sacramento, Lake, Colusa, Glenn, Sutter and Yuba counties.

“I am excited about the opportunity to represent the people of the proposed 3rd Congressional District, which now includes my home in Walnut Grove and many of the people that I currently represent in Solano and Sacramento counties. I also served Yolo County for eight years in the State Senate and have great familiarity with the entire district from my decade-long service statewide.”

“This is a district composed of industrious farmers, entrepreneurs, businesses, two of the finest Air Force bases in America, one of the greatest universities in the world at UC Davis and three outstanding community colleges,” Garamendi added. ”I look forward to taking all the needs and opportunities of this region to the halls of Congress to do what I can to help this community thrive and prosper.”

Garamendi noted that as a member of Congress and as California’s Insurance Commissioner for eight years and Lieutenant Governor for nearly three years, he has represented the entire district and developed many lasting friendships and working relationships with elected officials and community leaders.

“I look forward to building on my relationships with local leaders to effectively represent this district if given the honor,” Garamendi said, adding that as a UC regent, he gained a deep and personal understanding of the key issues and challenges of UC Davis and the University of California system. “My priorities are clear: Make It In America to rejuvenate our middle class; invest in education and research to solidify our standing in the global economy; protect Northern California’s water; invest in infrastructure like our deteriorating highway system and the Capitol Corridor; and responsibly reduce the deficit. I know these are priorities most people in our region share.”

“I’ve been honored to serve the people of Alameda and Contra Costa counties, and they should know that I will continue to serve and fight for them in Congress now and into the future. Northern California is a highly integrated community. We’re all in this together, and I know most of my colleagues in the region feel the same way.”
